Cockroaches

You probably are experiencing a problem with one of two cockroaches here in Georgia, although we do have a variety. 

If you are looking into pest control because you saw a huge roach – I have good news: You probably saw an American roach.

 Why is this good news?  They don’t reproduce in the house like the dreaded German cockroach.  These American roaches generally live in trees and enjoy mulch and vegetation, and are about one to two inches long. They enter through cracks from doors and windows and around pipes, especially those under sinks.  Sealing and caulking cracks and crevices is key to control as well as clean gutters and wood off the ground.

If they’re German cockroaches, it’s another story altogether. These germ and disease carrying pests are about a half inch to an inch long with 2 stripes on the back of their thorax, the section behind the head.

One female German roach can produce 400 eggs in her lifetime, which is about 3 to 6 months.  She carries an ootheca – an egg case – containing 30 to 40 eggs that pesticides can’t penetrate.  This is why you need both patience and a professional to handle a German roach problem.  It is also why treatments should be done monthly. 

Control of German roaches can’t be obtained on a quarterly plan.  An on-site inspection must be done before an estimate can be given. Monthly service is required.
